The second-generation Audi R8 has been around since 2015, when it came out with 610 HP, the same as a Lamborghini Huracan. In some races, it's even been seen outpacing its Italian counterpart.
However, some people still wanted more. There are two ways to do that. Usually, when people want around 800 HP, they go for the supercharger because it sounds better. However, this white supercar has been fitted with twin turbochargers.
Maybe 900 HP doesn't sound as impressive as the 2,000 horsepower monsters we see in America. But it's a heck of a lot more reliable. Considering the size of the turbos that have been bolted on, we have a sneaking suspicion that more power will be extracted in the future.
We wonder what drives the urge to bolt more power to the R8. Is it just the need to go faster? Because the limits of the stock engine can't be explored on public roads. Is it fear that a slightly modified Mercedes-AMG E63 S might one day defeat you? It definitely could be that one.
The speed machine was filmed by YouTube supercar spotter cvdzijden at the recent Race 1000 event in Germany. Unfortunately, it didn't participate in the runway activities. But we still get a good sample of how the engine sounds.
The turbochargers are filtering out the repetition of the ten exotic cylinders, but with a titanium exhaust system, it still sounds louder than a stock R8.
There's nothing to see under the glass cover, only a little badge that says Material Mord Racing, which is a German shop that has made some monster Evos in the past. The turbochargers are tucked away behind the rear bumper. In fact, you can see them peaking through the grilles. It's almost as if Audi left those on purpose there just in case somebody needed the space for a twin-turbo system.
If you're looking for an even more ridiculous power figure, Underground Racing just made a 3,000 HP twin-turbo R8 that set a 1/2 mile record of 267 mph.
