When Jeremy Clarkson took the Caparo T1 for a test-drive round the Top Gear circuit, the floor of the car fell and there was a glitch with the fuel system. Fifth Gear's Jason Plato has experienced a fire at the wheel of the T1, so reliability isn't the Caparo's strong point.
Nevertheless, the British company has teased the image above, announcing the Evolution variant of the Formula 1 inspired supercar. As some of you might remember, the 3.5-liter V8 engine in the outgoing model churns out 575 bhp at a screaming 10,500 rpm in a car that only weighs 1,040 lbs (470 kgs).
The Caparo T1 Evolution will hike that figure all the way to 700 bhp. Caparo also informs that an updated chassis with new suspension is on the menu, along with driver aids such as ABS, traction and stability control systems to keep that oomph in check. Even though it'll be more hardcore than the current T1, the Brits are promising improved driver comfort, as well as a better driving experience. Maybe that's a hint engineers have worked on the lack of downforce experienced by the T1 at slow speeds.
Caparo tells that a range of extras will be offered to customers that want to make the most of their T1 Evolution track-bred machines, including "Silver, Gold or Platinum parts" and a suite of similarly curious named "Virtual Engineer packages." Although the company "forgot" to provide a launch date for the T1 Evolution, Caparo has already opened the order book for the successor of the T1.
