Despite the tons of differences between the BMW M3 and the Porsche 911, there's always been a bit of a competition going on between the two, at least in certain buyers/owners' minds.
Nevertheless, when mentioning the Porsche 911 Turbo, things climb to a whole new league, in terms of both performance and financial resources. Nevertheless, the M3 driver in the video at the bottom of the page wanted to upgrade his E92 to the point where he could take on Zuffenhausen's supercar.
As a result, the 4.2-liter V8 under the hood of the M3 was gifted with a VT2-625 supercharger kit by ESS Tuning. This is the kind of forced induction goodies that allow the M3 to offer 677 hp at the rear wheels, hence the crank horsepower approximating in the name of the package. The boosted 2013 M3 was thus ready for its Turbo Neunelfer battle, but the 911 example it met wasn't exactly stock either.
We're dealing with a Turbo S belonging to the 997.2 generation, which had not only been gifted with full bolt-ons but had also gained upgraded turbochargers. Since the standard model packs 530 hp, you can expect the resulting output to sit anywhere between 700 and 900 ponies.
The two German octane behemoths met during an event that offered them an empty airfield runway, so the drivers could easily dip into the potential of their machines.
Given the obvious performance difference between the two competitors, the M3 got a respectable head start. Keep in mind that the race saw the machines using a rolling start. However, since we're talking about the kind of half-mile shenanigan that doesn't place the focus on the first car that crosses the finish line, the trap speed values were the ones that mattered in the end.
Hit the "play" button below to watch both results (the finish line one and the velocity-related one).
