Eddie turned 4 at the beginning of the week, and because his mother wanted something really special to take some of the stress of starting school away, she turned to Facebook for help.
Eddie comes from a long line of mechanics and he loves everything about cars. He has also been diagnosed with autism earlier this year and is finding the idea of starting school very stressful.
His mother, Rhian Pert, knew that a car-themed birthday party would do wonders in terms of helping feel better, so she turned to Facebook to ask for her, the NY Post reports. She urged drivers or friends who knew drivers of souped up cars to gather for a small parade on the boy’s birthday.
To her surprise, 150 cars showed up, engines roaring and tires screeching, ready for the 30-hour parade outside the boy’s house. Video from the special event is included at the bottom of the page. It included cars from car clubs all over Yorkshire.
Some cars were of the kind you see down the street at any time, but others were modified. The Post says the parade included a modified old-school American cop car and Eddie’s all-time favorite, a Subaru.
He loved seeing them all, her mother explains.
“I had no clue about most of the makes and models but Eddie knew them all. He knows over 40 different makes and models just from their logo. He is highly intelligent and I think he enjoys the noises they make especially the ones with high revs, Subaru is definitely his favorite,” she explains. “He couldn’t stop giggling when he saw it, this birthday is definitely going to be one for him to remember.”
She, for one, couldn’t believe so many people showed up to do something nice for her kid. She knew she would get some kind of response, but she didn’t imagine it would be something on this scale.
“It was absolutely amazing and a complete surprise for Eddie,” Pert explains. “It was incredible to see the whole community come together like that to make Eddie’s dreams come true. It was the birthday present of a lifetime he was grinning from ear to ear.”
