The moment every Audi coupe fan has been waiting for all year finally came today, as the brand new TTS Coupe finally went on sale in its domestic German market. The model was added to the official online configurator, giving us access to many tech fact about the fastest car yet built on the MQB platform.
Let's start with what hasn't changed. As promised, Audi dropped a 310 PS turbo engine under the bonnet. It is a very impressive 2-liter mill that delivers its maximum output at 5,800rpm and also produces 380 Nm of torque.
With the optional S tronic auto gearbox, the TTS Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and stops when only when asked to by its electronic governor at 250 km/h. The standard model comes with a manual and requires 4.9 seconds to reach the benchmark speed.
Today, we also leaned that it is very efficient as well, as the S tronic model promises city fuel consumption of 8.3 liters per 100 kilometers. That's largely due to the way in which this twin-clutch gearbox works and to the lightness of the package: just 1,460 kilograms. (for more detailed weight and economy numbers, check out the TTS database)
There are also a few reasons to consider buying the Audi TTS over the more powerful A45. For starters, performance is about the same and four-ring options cost a little less. For example, the awesome Vegas Yellow color is just €340, while red leather seats cost €685.
Making a case against the mighty Cayman is an altogether more difficult thing. If you can't be convinced that a RWD Porsche can be beaten by an AWD Audi, at least know that the TTS is available with all-LED Matrix headlights.
