The Brits are famed for their dry sense of humor and, occasionally, for the stick they’re believed to be carrying up their you-know-what, but there’s nothing dry about these 3 grandmas.
Car rental company RentalCars.com had the bright idea to take three 70+-year-old women who’d never been abroad in their life and make them the stars of their new web series, a mock "The Grand Tour" trip in Europe. It documents the ladies’ trip to Spain, which saw them travel by car through Spain’s sunny Catalonia.
The car was a courtesy from the company, of course: a new, beautiful Mercedes-Benz A-Class that June clipped on the side mirror on her first day and first drive through Barcelona. After all, she did say she’d never driven abroad, so she had a hard time adjusting to going on the “wrong” side of the road.
She also had some issues with the car, as she wasn’t accustomed to so many options and features.
“I'm quite a confident driver at home, but driving abroad on the opposite side of the road in a brand new automatic, was an entirely different thing,” June explains. “I was quite nervous at first - going round roundabouts is hard. I'd only been in the car a few minutes when I'd clipped the wing mirror.”
June was also the only driver in the group, so that means they had to use other means of transportation as well. They traveled from Eccles, near Manchester, to Barcelona by plane, and also got around Catalonia by boat.
You can see a video summarizing some of their adventures at the bottom of the page. The full episodes are available on the company’s dedicated YouTube channel. The entire trip lasted 5 days and it was filled with fun adventures and firsts for these adorable grannies.
They took part in local festivities, they went sightseeing, they danced and ate local cuisine, and they faced their worst fears with brand new experiences, like skydiving. In the end, it was the best road trip they’d ever had, and you can see that on screen.
Or, as June put is: “We made so many memories on the road - I wasn't expecting the drive to be such a big part of the trip.”
