We can now confirm that Joan Barreda Bort took off in the 12th stage of the 2013 Dakar. There were serious fears that Barreda could retire from the rally after the shoulder injury he sustained yesterday, 10 km short of the special stage finish.
Barreda came off his Husqvarna yesterday around km 180, after failing to properly assess the depth of a hole. He blames his mistake on his goggles, which got very dirty after crossing a lot of river beds in yesterday's stage.

While he initially declared yesterday he wasn't sure he could get up on the bike again, since he had no idea on what happened to his shoulder, live Dakar updates confirmed he will ride in Stage 12.

The 12th stage of the 2013 Dakar links Fiambala and Copiapo, with 392 km of connection followed by a slightly shorter 319 km special stage. This stage brings the riders back into Chile, with the special staring after the border, with a climb at a very high altitude around 3000 m (9,850 ft) and crossing alternating types of terrain in the Atacama desert.
