The Bavarian automaker BMW is on a roll this summer – they presented the refreshed 2025 M2 with 20 more hp to reach the same power level as the base M3 and M4; the 2025 BMW 2 Series also got a nip and tuck, its subsidiary Alpina boosted the 3 and 4 Series to 529 hp, and the all-new 1 Series plus the 312-hp BMW M135 have a very quirky design.
That's all from June alone – and BMW didn't wrap the month without yet another big novelty, the all-new fourth generation G45 BMW X3 compact luxury crossover SUV. Looking at how the 1 Series, 2 Series, M2, and the refreshed M3 and M4 look, some people will surely say that BMW's designers 'have lost their minds' and now we're all here just along for the wacky ride.

Others will say that diversity is a good thing – each BMW series has a distinct feeling that eschews the old 'I can't tell them apart' feeling that's all too traditional at other carmakers, including rivals like Audi or Mercedes-Benz. However, controversy arises every time a new BMW is unveiled, apparently, and those who hoped the X3 would have a classic design saw their dreams sent down the drain and flushed twice.

In America, the all-new 2025 BMW X3 debuted with two 48-volt MHEV powertrains, the BMW Curved Display with iDrive 9, and an MSRP starting from under $50k – the 30 xDrive model has a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder unit packing 255 hp and the M50 xDrive, meanwhile, has 393 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque. They're both equipped standard with all-wheel drive, so there's no need to worry about losing grip – if you pay the handsome $49,500 and $64,100 MSRPs, respectively.

Naturally, with its polarizing design yet great technical foundation, the 2025 BMW X3 has attracted a lot of attention both in the real world and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. For example, some are wondering if the reports about BMW phasing out the X4 coupe-SUV are accurate and if the X2 will indeed fill its shoes. In America, the latter starts at $42k, by the way, whereas the current X4 goes out at least $55k.

Well, irrespective of the rumors of its demise, Sugar Chow, the virtual artist better known as sugardesign_1 on social media, has decided to CGI present his vision for the potential next-gen X4 based on the new styling language promoted by the 2025 X3. This is a hypothetical and unofficial preview, by the way, so take everything with a pinch of salt until we get official word on the 2025 or 2026 X4 from BMW.

Obviously, with the design based on the new X3, the potentially upcoming X4 iteration flaunts the same front fascia as the regular compact luxury crossover SUV, and when compared to the current X4, it sure comes out easy to stand out in any crowd. The rear is not too different, either, as the pixel master reworked only the sloping roof design and kept the new LED taillights, the bumper design, and even the four-pipe exhaust system, as this is the hypothetical X4 M50 xDrive shown here in these CGI illustrations.

So, what do you think? Should BMW cut the costs and create the next X4 as a 90-percent identical copy of the X3 when it gives it a new lease on life? Or should they just drop it altogether?
