May was a busy month for Subaru in America – they expanded their distribution footprint in Dallas, Texas, returned as sponsors of the SubieEvents series, earned new accolades (including from IIHS and Consumer Reports), reported yet another increase of sales, and also launched the performance-oriented 2025 Subaru WRX tS (tuned by STI) trim.
Well, June also didn't start too bad either – they revealed the Outback model nailed a massive milestone of three million sales and reported that their sales increased by 7.3 percent to over 267k for the January-through-May period. Solterra and Forester sales were the highlights, with 73 and 61.4% increases, respectively. On the other hand, passenger car models like the Impreza and Legacy continue to drop – by 24% and 21%, respectively.
As such, it is no wonder Subaru of America decided to announce not long ago that its Legacy nameplate will drive off into the sunset for good after the 2025 model year, stating that this move is based on market trends that show customers continue to move towards crossovers and SUVs from passenger cars. Alas, it seems this memo didn't reach the parallel universes of vehicular CGI.
Instead, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators goes on unabated, and Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of CGI-revealing an all-new 2025 Legacy mid-size sedan. Hypothetically, this would be the eighth iteration of the model, and in a bid to lower development costs, the Japanese automaker could leverage the new styling premiered with the 2025 Forester compact crossover SUV by using the same lighting clusters front and rear.
Meanwhile, Subaru could also switch from its own Subaru Global Platform, which was used for the seventh Legacy, produced in Japan and Lafayette, Indiana, for the North American market. As such, in a bid to keep it alive, the Japanese carmaker could borrow the XV80 Toyota Camry's platform (note the copycat lower grille) along with the exclusive hybrid powertrain to make it a bit more desirable and in trend with the latest electrified lifestyle.
Interestingly, Toyota is offering a Camry with all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain for the first time, so that would fall right into Subaru's jurisdiction when it comes to adventure models. To keep up the pretense of symmetrical AWD, even though it wouldn't be the case anymore, the pixel master even fitted the make-believe 2025 Subaru Legacy with protective black plastic wheel arches, as seen on their crossover models but also the current WRX.
So, do you like it or not? Also, do you think Subaru made the right call when they decided to kill off the Legacy sedan after the 2025 model year – especially considering its well-known legacy (pun intended) on the international markets?
