These days, everything at the Ford Motor Company is about motorsport and crazy expensive assets. If you don't believe us, let's share some examples, shall we?
The latest reveal is the insane Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, an electric demonstrator designed for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, set to take place on June 23, which rocks 1,400 horsepower and the desire to beat last year's EV record, which was bested by Ford's own SuperVan 4.2 by no less than 37 seconds compared to the previous holder.
A week before the PPIHC, the Blue Oval company was in France at the 24 Hours of Le Mans not just with its Ford Mustang GT3 (which placed third in its class) but also to reveal the European specification of the Ford Mustang GTD (which reportedly costs over half a million dollars!) along with the Carbon Series and the new Performance pack.
Of course, everyone dropped their jaws at the stunningly cool exterior and incredibly dull interior – they're asking $325k in America and reportedly $562k in Europe for something that has the same cockpit as the Mustang GT and Dark Horse plus some exposed carbon fiber which from a distance looks like the cheap plastics found on a Dacia. Yeah, and some fancy paddles, of course; let's not forget about that. Well, it remains to be seen whether the Mustang GTD will become a collectible item.
Meanwhile, Ford continues collecting recalls, including one for the all-new S650 seventh-generation Mustang. But enough about the only passenger car in the Blue Oval lineup in America – let's talk about crossovers. It seems that rugged and boxy SUVs are all the rage these days, and the Ford Bronco Sport and Bronco are a statement of that. So, what could we need, perhaps more brick-like CUVs?
Well, the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators seem to think so. At least Dimas Ramadhan, the virtual automotive artist behind the Digimods DESIGN channel on YouTube, has taken up the task of CGI-revealing an all-new Flex crossover SUV. The full-size CUV was originally produced by FoMoCo from 2009 to 2019 over a single generation, and this pixel master thinks it could easily return to fight off the likes of Chevrolet's Traverse, for example, with its boxy yet fashionable design, as well as a hybrid powertrain.
To make it more enticing, the CGI expert has decided to steal the DNA of the refreshed 2024 Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck, and now his unofficially revived Ford Flex has the ruggedly handsome front fascia borrowed from the F-Series best-seller, as well as the LED taillights. The author has even styled a fashionable trim – the body has a rich crimson color, there are contrasting glossy black bits and pieces plus black wheels, and the rooftop is white. So, what do you think?
