Jim, a virtual artist better known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive realm; now he dreams of a reborn Chevy Impala SS – all over again.
American car enthusiasts surely heard about the Chevrolet Impala – GM's full-size car produced by its Chevy subsidiary with 'hiccups' on three occasions: for model years 1958 to 1985, 1994 to 1996, and 2000 to 2020. It was a popular flagship passenger car – both figuratively speaking and in reality, and although it jumped around as if using a time machine, it was also one of the best-selling American-made nameplates at home in the United States.

Surely, due to General Motors issuing three distinct series for different time periods, each era has its proponents. But a lot of people will claim the best Impala was the SS model from 1994 to 1996. Even if not everyone agrees to that, many will also say it's probably one of the most underrated American-built performance sedans ever, just like the Caddy CT5-V Blackwing is today (when keeping the proportions, of course).

So, although it mostly looked like a blacked-out police cruiser or Taxi cab, the Caprice-based Impala SS was one of the most impressive performance sedans of the 1990s – and it rightfully takes a place in the American pantheon of great cars. Or, at least, in the heart and soul of this representative of the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.

This pixel master has had countless attempts over the years at creating a worthy successor to the mid-1990s Chevrolet Impala SS. Well, this one might not be it – everything depends on your POV, after all. However, as per the author, it does use a current Chevrolet front fascia taken from one of the many crossover SUVs. It also comes with vintage alloy wheels to further establish the connection to the 1990s, a classic profile, and the proportions of a proper full-size sedan, as the CGI expert says it's as big as an Audi S8.

Unfortunately, we are saddened by the fact that it's not merely wishful thinking; it's something that will surely never happen. In fact, Chevrolet is further shrinking the passenger car roster – after the sixth generation Camaro bit the dust last December, we heard that its affordable Malibu mid-size sedan is up next to get the retirement papers when the 2025 model year concludes production. So, all that will be left is the C8 Chevy Corvette series, complete with the Stingray, Z06, E-Ray, and the upcoming ZR1.

Oh, well, if we dream – let's dream big. So, how about this hypothetical 2025 Chevy Impala SS resurrection getting the same powertrains as the C8, complete with the 495-hp and 655-hp electrified 6.2-liter LT2 V8, as well as the mighty 5.5-liter LT6 flat-plane V8. That would be something to behold, right?
