Believe it or not, a big part of Cadillac's worldwide success last year was due to the CT5 sedan rather than its raft of crossovers and SUVs like the XT4, XT5, XT6, and Escalade.
Fueled by China's continued love for traditional four-door saloon models, Cadillac's best-selling nameplate was the CT5. Even at home in America, where deliveries rose 9%, the CT5 jumped no less than 17%, and the company also registered record sales for the V-Series and Blackwing models. Of course, it also had the best Lyriq deliveries since the EV's launch.
As such, it is no surprise that Cadillac combines the push for more EVs - Lyriq and Celestiq, plus the upcoming Escalade IQ, Optiq, and Vistiq – with some additional love for the passenger car roster. After first premiering the refreshed CT5, the mid-size executive sedan was also recently updated for the 2025 model with its high-performance CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing models.
The two performance sedans debuted at the Rolex 24 at Daytona race on January 27 and 28, where the 2025 CT5-V Blackwing acted as the Official Safety Car, and both will be manufactured at GM's Lansing Grand River Assembly facility in Michigan starting this summer. However, a company footnote also said the Blackwing will be available in "extremely limited" quantities.
The updates include a new visage, quad trapezoidal exhaust tips, three new colors (Drift Metallic, Deep Space Metallic, Typhoon Metallic), an upgraded Carbon Fiber Package for the Blackwing, plus a massive 33-inch LED touchscreen display inside, redesigned HVAC controls, and more. There were no alterations to the powertrains, though, so they still feature the 360-hp twin-turbo V6 or 668 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8.
So, how do you make them stand out in a crowd? Well, if you ask the imaginative realm of digital car content creators, at least the Blackwing – considered by many a Corvette Z06 with four doors – could easily look even better with some widebody attire. For example, this virtual artist, better known as c_zr1 on social media, gives us CGI food for thought in the form of a widebody Blackwing that also comes with a wing snatched from the Corvette.
Interestingly, this isn't a bad idea at all. Consider this. Not long ago, if you wanted a muscle sedan, the easiest option was from the Mopar department – a Dodge Charger and it even came with an OEM widebody option. But the L-body Charger ceased production in December 2023, so if Cadillac were to offer these kinds of aerodynamic enhancements, it would immediately fill a niche without having to worry about any sort of competition. Also, that hypothetical crimson interior looks precisely spot on together with the light blue exterior hue, right?
