The biggest news of the week is the unveiling of the all-new BMW M5. The German automaker lifted the veils off its body a day ago, albeit in four-door body style, with the five-door station wagon, aka Touring in Bimmer slang, not mentioned at all, save for the fact that it will debut this fall.
Naturally, this left the door open for rendering artists to imagine it again. And given that they could use the 2025 BMW M5 Sedan as a starting point, these are the most realistic digital illustrations of the brand's Audi RS 6 Avant fighter.

Signed by germanysfinest43 and shared on Instagram recently, these renderings imagine the upcoming 2025 BMW M5 Touring. It has the exact same face as its four-door sibling, including the grille, headlamps, bumper, etc. The rear-end design is also identical (up to a point), sporting the same diffuser and bumper combo and a four-pipe exhaust system.

The V8 recipe may be a dying breed in this class, but BMW's M Division stays true to it by equipping the new M5 with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo lump. An electric motor assists the internal combustion engine, which is the same one powering the XM, albeit in a different state of tune. The combined output is 717 hp (727 ps/535 kW) and 738 pound-foot (1,000 Nm) of torque, which is a significant boost over its predecessor in both Competition and hotter CS flavors.

However, the added oomph doesn't make it quicker, as the new BMW M5 is a heavy boy. In fact, it weighs more than some large pickups, tipping the scales at 5,390 pounds (2,445 kg), or 1,045 lbs (kg) more than before – and that's the curb weight. Thus, 0-60 mph (0 to 97 kph) takes 3.4 seconds, two-tenths slower than the F90 M5, three-tenths more than the M5 Competition, and a full half a second slower than the M5 CS. At 155 mph or 250 kph, the top speed remains the same, boostable to 190 mph (306 kph) with the M Driver's Pack option.

We expect the upcoming BMW M5 Touring, which will also make its way to North America for the 2025 model year, next to the new M5 Sedan, to be one-tenth of a second slower than its four-door sibling. Thus, there is certainly room for improvement, and knowing how BMW rolls, we expect additional members with even more power. For what it’s worth, the slower straight-line performance compared to its predecessor leaves the door open for yet another M5 CS, which should be a few years away.

Meanwhile, what's your take on the design of the five-door M5 as imagined by the quoted rendering artist? Is it a yay or a nay? We'd lean towards the latter, adding that the rather aging Audi RS 6 Avant is an even more interesting proposal now than it was before the 2025 M5 broke cover.
