BMW launched the second-gen M2 Coupe in the United States for model year 2023 with 453 horsepower and 406 pound-feet (550 Nm) to its name. For model year 2025, which comprises plenty of updates, the smallest M of them all has received an M4 Coupe-matching 473 horses and up to 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) at the crank. On paper, that is, because six- and eight-cylinder engines from BMW develop a bit more than advertised.
Why up to and not simply 443 pound-feet? Because ZF's torque-converter auto is a beefier gearbox than ZF's manual. Opting for the row-your-own tranny gets you the very same 406 pound-feet as before, which is a match for the base-spec M4 and the bite-the-back-of-your-hand pretty 3.0 CSL.

The M2 continues to rock the B58-derived S58 engine, a twin-turbo sixer with no hybrid assistance whatsoever. To enter production sometime during August 2024 at Mexico-based BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosi, the rear-wheel-drive thriller needs either 4.1 or 3.9 seconds to reach 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour). Limited to 155 mph (250 kph) by default, BMW's revised M2 can be taken to 177 mph (285 kph) with the M Driver's Package.

Said inline-six mill exhales through a quad-piped sports exhaust with electrically controlled flaps. Equipped with the M division's active differential, the M2 Coupe redlines at 7,200 revolutions per minute. From the standpoint of exterior styling, the biggest changes are black lettering with silver bordering for the badges on the radiator grille and trunk lid, plus black tailpipes. If new paint colors are your idea of big changes, you're in for a surprise.

BMW's expanded palette for the M2 Coupe includes the pictured Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect, Twilight Purple Pearl Effect, Voodoo Blue, Java Green, Frozen Portimao Blue II, Portimao Blue, Frozen Pure Grey, Skyscraper Grey, Vegas Red, and Sao Paulo Yellow. The Style 930M alloy wheels with a double-spoke design come standard in Jet Black. Said wheels measure 19 and 20 inches fore and aft, and can be had in silver or bi-color.

Also benefitting from revised accelerator mapping and response, BMW M's gateway coupe is available with stickier tires for track driving. Previously bundled with the M Race Track Package in Europe or the Carbon Package in the United States, the M Carbon bucket seats can be individually specified for the 2025 model year.

M Cabon bucket seats feature Merino leather, facilities for multi-point harnesses, removable headrests, electric adjustment, and heating. The M Sport seats in Vernasca leather can be had in black with red. The redesigned steering wheel features a flat-bottom rim wrapped in leather, with said wheel flaunting a red marker at the 12 o'clock position.

M Fine Brushed Aluminum interior trim is standard, while optional trim choices include Aluminum Rhombicle Anthracite and M Carbon Fiber. Technology updates are in the offing as well. iDrive based on BMW Operating System 8.5 replaces the previous iDrive 8. In addition to the M-specific graphics, iDrive 8.5 with optional Live Cockpit Professional includes Augmented View.

Optional too is the head-up display. The bad news? BMW Operating System 8.5 means that BMW reduced the number of buttons and controls in favor of touch (via the lower area of the central touchscreen) and voice control (via the personal assistant). The heated steering wheel (which is an optional extra as well, seat heating, temperature, and ventilation settings are controlled as such.

New adjustment controls for the air vents round off the list of interior changes. To reach dealers nationwide in the fall of 2024, the 2025 BMW M2 Coupe is priced at $64,900 sans destination. The $1,175 freight charge results in a net price of $66,075 or $1,880 more than the 2024 model.
