If you add the $1,150 destination charge that makes the sixth generation E-Class cross-wagon no less than $3,450 more expensive than its predecessor – that's how these automakers live the premium lifestyle, of course.
Naturally, if you ask them, Mercedes will say that its W214 Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive car is vastly improved compared to its predecessor. The German company announced the sixth iteration of the iconic E-Class based on the RWD-focused MRA II (Modular Rear Architecture) platform in April last year. It quickly also revealed the S214 station wagon model and the X214 all-terrain estate version.

America is only getting the W214 saloon and the X214 all-terrain model to compete against the likes of Audi's $69,300 A6 allroad quattro or Volvo's even cheaper $61,195 2024 V90 Cross Country. The latter comes with the B6 AWD mild hybrid powertrain featuring 295 hp and a sprint to 60 mph (96 kph) in 6.1 seconds, while the former has an even more powerful V6 packing 335 horsepower to help it reach 60 mph in 5.4 seconds.

As for Mercedes-Benz, following the sedan launch last year, Mercedes-Benz revealed the first data about the all-new E-Class All-Terrain in September 2023 to round out the lineup. In the United States, there is only one version – the E 450 4Matic, which has a 3.0-liter mild hybrid six-cylinder engine that is developing at 375 hp, the most among its competitors. With the additional 23 hp of electric boost, it can sprint to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, curiously making the elegant Mercedes the sportiest of the bunch.

It's also the most expensive, of course, as it starts from an MSRP of $74,700 before adding the $1,150 destination charge to reach $75,850 from the onset. As always, it has standard all-wheel drive, an Airmatic air suspension, and an Off-Road driving program, among many others. It's also larger than before – 75 inches wide and 58.9 inches tall, while the length has remained mostly the same at 195 inches overall.

The wheelbase has increased by 0.87 inches to 116.6 inches, and luggage capacity varies between 33.1 and 64.6 cu-ft when the second row is folded with a 40:20:40 split. The company also promises a city fuel economy of 22 mpg and a highway average of 31 mpg. Being a Mercedes, there's an almost never-ending list of optional goodies, including the $1,750 Manufaktur Alpine Grey and Moonlight White, 20-inch AMG wheels ($850), Night Package ($200), illuminated grille ($400), various upholstery trims of up to $2,990, or the Manufaktur Black Piano Lacquer 'Flowing Lines' wood ($1,300), Multicontour Seating Package ($2,950), and more.

As such, you can easily reach almost $100k as we played just two minutes with the various options across the company's online configurator tool and came up with a summary for no less than $97,545! Expensive, right?
