The Ford Ranger mid-size pickup truck is a distinctively odd story in various regions – in Europe or Australia, it's a best-seller, while at home in America, it has registered disastrous sales over the past few years.
According to GCBC (goodcarbadcar.net), the Ford Ranger US sales hit an all-time high back in 2005 when the third generation delivered over 120k units, and as far as the recent past is concerned, the year 2020 was another hit with over 101k units sold. Since then, though, it has been on a downward trend that seemingly hasn't stopped after the introduction of the fifth iteration late last year.

So, after the first five months of the year, it has barely reached close to 5k units in May! Meanwhile, it's one of the best-selling Ford models on the Old Continent, and the Land Down Under even calls it Australia's number one-selling vehicle after more than 63k units were delivered last year (the global version of the latest iteration debuted in late 2021).

Naturally, Ford Australia wants to keep the T6.2 iteration on top for as long as they can, and they recently announced the introduction of the Ranger Black Edition to the family. It is based on the 2024.5 Ford Ranger XL Double Pick-up with 4x4 and featuring the 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo engine under the hood, "with added visual impact for owners that mix work and play," plus a drive-away price of AUD 57,990, the equivalent of almost $38,680 at the current exchange rate when fitted with the Arctic White exterior shade.

"The Ranger Black Edition is perfect for customers who need a Ute with all the capability to get the job done during the week and the features that make it easy to fill their weekends with adventure," said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia. "With the Ranger Black Edition, Ford is proud to be able to add extra value to Australia's favorite vehicle."

This limited edition comes with stylish black exterior design elements, plus added value and content compared to the Ranger XL, such as the black 'long-legged' sports bar and drop-in bedliner with a 12V socket and a cargo management system for the tray. Additional features include the bespoke 17-inch Asphalt Black alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tires and black side steps. Plus, all Black Editions have a unique Asphalt Black mesh for the radiator grille, and standard Bolder Grey touches.

Last but not least, the Ranger Black Edition has a recommended Manufacturer List Price (MLP) of AUD 56,680, but there are a few options, like the AUD 1,900 Towing Pack, AUD 3,000 Manual Roller Shutter, and AUD 700 Prestige paint that can lift it to new heights. On the other hand, it's interesting that Ford emphasizes the Arctic White build for added contrast and doesn't say anything about the rest of the available colors.
