Cupra's first standalone product, the Formentor, is getting a facelift three years after it entered production at Martorell, in Spain. But we already knew that, as the compact crossover was already spied several times. The camouflage was, however, reduced to the minimum in this latest encounter with the camera of our spy photographer.
One might be tricked into saying it was nabbed fully undisguised, though there are still some stickers hiding the design of several new components, like those out back that keep the styling of the new taillights hidden for the moment. We can expect a tweaked tailgate, a new bumper with repositioned reflectors, and the same logos.

From certain angles, the face of the 2024 Cupra Formentor will send Lexus vibes. You can blame it on the new grille with its cheese grater shape. It has a sizeable air intake in the middle of the new bumper, two triangular vents, and a pair of fresh headlamps with different graphics. The scooped tester wore white on the outside, rode on a set of black alloys, had four exhaust tips, and no sizeable brake discs backed up by large calipers. Therefore, we think it's not a performance-oriented grade.

Another thing worth mentioning is the charging port located on the left front fender, which tells us it is a plug-in hybrid model. The partially electrified powertrain will likely be backed up by gasoline units, including the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter mills. As you likely already know, the range-topping variant of the car uses the same engine as the Audi RS Q3. It is Audi Sport's 2.5-liter five-pot, which develops 385 hp (390 ps/287 kW) here, with the torque standing at 354 lb-ft (480 Nm). The grunt allows it to hit 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.2 seconds after taking off, with the top speed limited to 155 miles per hour (250 kph). A 2.0-liter diesel is also part of the current powertrain family.

We still have no clue whether Cupra plans to update the engines or at least some of them, but if they will, then it will probably be with an emphasis on making them more frugal and improving the CO2 emissions. We also expect some changes on the inside, where the facelifted Formentor might feature a new infotainment system. The steering wheel and center console could be updated, and they might also improve the technology and safety gear, likely rounding things off with new upholstery and trim. We will find out more about it when it premieres, and given that the testers have lost nearly their entire camouflage, the big day for the model based on the MQB Evo platform, shared with the VW Golf, SEAT Leon, Audi A3, and others is probably around the corner.
