A little over a month after it shaved the pricing of the Silverado EV RST First Edition, Chevrolet has announced that production is now underway. Besides the special model, the bowtie brand also offers the fleet-oriented 4WT version.
Based on GM's Ultium Platform, the Chevrolet Silverado EV boasts up to 754 horsepower (765 ps/562 kW) and 785 pound-foot (1,064 Nm) of torque in the range-topping First Edition RST configuration. Choosing the lesser 4WT specification will also get you a dual-motor setup, albeit with a bit less power, rated at 510 hp (517 ps/380 kW) and 615 lb-ft (834 Nm) of torque.
According to the GM-owned car brand, the Silverado EV can travel up to 450 miles (724 km) on a full charge for the 4WT. The lesser 3WT has a 393-mile (632 km) range, and the top-of-the-line grade has a 440-mile (708 km) autonomy. The model's battery, which comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile (160,934 km) warranty, supports DC fast charging up to 350 kW, giving it an estimated 100 miles (161 km) in 10 minutes and 34 miles (55 km) per hour at a 240-volt connection.
Some of the highlights of the fully-loaded First Edition RST, which is capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 miles an hour (0-97 kph) in less than 4.5 seconds, include four-wheel steering, an automatic adaptive air suspension, and the multi-flex midgate that expands its cargo capability while maintaining the seating for rear-row occupants. The power-operated multi-flex tailgate is said to be available, and the model comes with a 17-inch infotainment system, an 11-inch customizable gauge cluster, and a head-up display.
Moreover, both the RST and the 4WT, which launched last year for fleet customers, sport the Tow/Haul mode, integrated trailer brake controller, trailer hitch positions, and hitch guidance, whereas the top grade adds the company's advanced trailering system. Chevy offers the Silverado EV in the Crew Cab configuration, with the second row pushed rearward so that passengers taller than six feet (183 cm) will sit comfortably. A fixed glass roof comes on the RST, and both enjoy a plethora of in-car storage compartments.
A distinctive lighting animation that greets the driver as they approach the vehicle with a key fob or an enabled cell phone is another highlight, alongside the trailering-capable Super Cruise, a hands-free driving assistance feature that makes the daily commute more pleasant.
Chevy says it will soon launch additional trim levels of the Silverado EV for retail customers, with various range options and capabilities. For now, those interested in the 2024 First Edition RST will have to pay a minimum of $94,500 for this model, excluding the $1,995 destination charge. So, could this vehicle sway you away from the stiff competition, or would you rather pick something else?
