Selling a used EV is becoming increasingly difficult. The market is readjusting as we speak, and people are less inclined to purchase previously owned electric cars, especially ones that are particularly expensive. Regardless, values are dropping like flies and a trend has already been established.
Look, you’ve been warned. If you own a used Lucid Air or even a Rivian or a Tesla, don’t expect to get much of your original "investment" back. We’ve covered two such cases back in April and May. First, we saw a 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Range model that failed to sell for $83,512, despite having an MSRP of $170,500.

Can you imagine? Nobody was willing to spend over $84k on a car that originally cost 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS money.

Then we saw a 2023 Lucid Air Touring with 4,300 miles on the clock draw a top bid of just $59,000, despite costing way more than $80,000 when new. Fast-forward to today, and here’s a 2023 Lucid Air Pure with 14,000 miles on its dual permanent-magnet electric motors, that just drew a high bid of $43,000.

You read that correctly. Nobody was willing to pay more than $43,000 for a car that just last year retailed for $84,700. Basically a 50% drop in MSRP in the span of roughly 12 months. That’s brutal. It’s enough to make you want to rethink this whole “EV thing”, and if you needed further proof as to how frustrating this can be for the seller, check out what the owner of this Lucid Air had to say in the comments section after that $43k slap in the face.

“Thanks to all that bid. [...] Clearly you don’t understand the value of an EV. Which is understandable because you haven’t done the research.”

Spoken like someone who just got their feelings hurt big time, and it’s perfectly natural – albeit not something I would condone. It’s important we maintain our composure both in victory as well as in defeat. Anyway, let’s run through a few of the specs as it pertains to this car.

Exterior highlights include the Fathom Blue Metallic paint, soft-close doors, adaptive LED headlights, and a set of 20” Aero Lite wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. Meanwhile, the cabin features a Mojave scheme with Lucid Black upholstery on the seats, four-zone automatic climate control, power-operated rear sunshades, heated and power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, plus the carmaker’s Surreal Sound audio system.

As for performance, we’re dealing with a dual motor setup, working alongside a 92-kWh battery to produce 480 horsepower, with everything going to all four wheels in an instant. The vehicle has a range of 410 miles (660 km) and should be able to get you from zero to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
