Hot on the heels of yesterday's Genesis G70 sighting, we have some spyshots and a video that show the Kia Stinger refresh undergoing testing at the Nurburgring. We believe this to be the GT model with a new engine and more hardware.
We have semi-official confirmation that the Stinger will get at least two new engines when this facelift comes out at the end of the year. The one everyone cares about is the 3.5-liter V6, which will replace the 3.3-liter in the performance model.
This is the same powertrain that went into the all-new Genesis GV80 SUV and it should bring performance increases to the Stinger lineup, up from 365 hp to about 380.
The updated GT will also be available for the first time with an active exhaust system. Basically, it's a butterfly valve that lets the V6 sound naughty when it wants to yet will still pass your usual police inspection. That's in addition to the fake sound Kia pumps through the speakers. Smartstream technology might even reduce emissions and fuel consumption, even though this is a slightly larger engine.
The base Stinger will also be way better, thanks to the new 2.5-liter that replaces the old 2.0-liter turbo and delivers around 290 hp and 310 lb-ft (compared to 255 hp and 260 lb-ft). Both will be hooked to the 8-speed auto while AWD will remain an optional extra. A diesel should also be available, but only in Europe and Korea.
Cosmetic changes are probably really small, limited to a new mesh for the grille, updated LED headlight graphics, different wheels, and a fresh color like the one we see in the photos.
Inside, the infotainment system will be upgraded from 8 to 10.25 inches. Dashboard trim and seat covers will be updated slightly. But because the Stinger is a low-volume car, don't expect all the latest gadgets.
