Even if Ford has a new generation Mustang in production, the S650, which has been sprinkled with the track-focused and ultra-hot GTD flavor, certain muscle car lovers cannot have enough of the S550-based Mustang Shelby GT500.
It's easy to understand why when remembering this is a dream ride that can give some supercars a run for their money. Well, in a straight-line sprint, anyway, as it was pretty much born for drag racing, and it's a serious production dragster on a good day, with someone familiar with it holding the wheel.

The S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 packs a serious V8 motor under the hood. It is a supercharged 5.2-liter unit that is good for 627 pound-foot (847 Nm) of torque. The output is rated at 760 horsepower (771 ps/567 kW), and that's some 40 horsepower shy of the new Mustang GTD, which starts at roughly $325,000.

It is a ten-second car down the quarter mile, assuming you can perform a perfect takeoff, as handling all that power is indeed very trick. As for the acceleration from naught to sixty (0 to 97 kph), it takes roughly three seconds, and that's more than enough for any gearhead, especially when remembering that this model can easily double as a daily driver.

You may come across one that costs roughly $80,000 in today's used car market, whereas some of the most expensive copies searching for new homes tend to venture into the six-digit category. So, where does this put the one pictured in the gallery above? If you've seen the images or some of them, and you likely have, as it’s impossible to ignore the damages, you have realized that it's far from being perfect.

In fact, it has fallen victim to an undisclosed accident that has left numerous bruises on its body. Some parts seem to be missing, like a good chunk of the front end, the left front quarter panel, the driver's door, and the windows were smashed. The airbags were also deployed, which tells us that it was crashed rather than vandalized. A more positive aspect is that the punchy supercharged V8 motor is still located in the engine bay.

We reckon it will cost you a small fortune to bring it back from the dead, and you shouldn't be afraid of elbow grease if you plan to buy it. Yep, despite looking all beat-up and ready to face the crusher, this 2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is listed for grabs in Houston, Texas, as part of an upcoming online auction. Copart advertises the muscle car in question here, and before clicking that link, tell us how much you would be willing to cough out for it, assuming you were in the business of buying and repairing or selling beat-up muscle cars for parts.
