Bring the champagne, the 2020 Toyota Supra is now a 9s car! Of course, this isn't that much of a surprise, especially since tuners had been engaged in a firepower race for a few months now.
The Mk V Supra we're talking about managed to complete the quarter-mile run in 9.92 seconds, with a trap speed of 133 mph, while its 60-foot time sat at 1.39s and its 1/8-mile number at 6.29s.
For the sake of comparison, I'll mention that, in factory trim, the new Supra is a mid-12s car when it comes to the 1,320 feet sprint.
We're probably looking at a world record here, but the numbers themselves don't tell the whole story. For instance, Speedy Mufflers, the aftermarket specialist behind the build, explains that the Toyota is still on the factory turbo.
Then again, the BMW-sourced 3.0-liter flat-six of the machine has been gifted with a nitrous setup, while sipping on Sunoco 100 Octane gas.
Of course, muscle is one thing and being able to put this to the prepped surface of the drag strip is a different story. As such, for the 9s run, the Supra used Hoosier drag radials.
And while the car is still a street toy, the passenger seat and the exhaust have been removed for the shenanigan we have here. In fact, you'll be able to check out the whole thing thanks to the piece of footage below, which covers all the key bits, from the pre-run burnout to the time slips.
PS: It wasn't that long ago when a 2020 Toyota Supra pulling a 10s quarter-mile on the factory turbo was a big deal. And while the Mk V has just breached into the 9s, there are multiple shops out there that have installed custom turbos. So it wouldn't be all that wild to talk about the upcoming 8s run while checking out the adventure below.
