If you’ve ever dreamed about owning a pickup, then you probably know already that the options in this market aren’t that many, especially because it’s essentially a niche that doesn’t necessarily bring home the bacon for some automakers.
But judging from a recent rendering, Kia should definitely be one of the companies building such a model (and according to the rumor mill, it is), as the 2020 Sorento looks pretty cool as a pickup truck.
The rendering, which SRK Designs has created in a making-of video on YouTube (also embedded below), envisions how the Kia Sorento, which right now is one of Kia’s best-selling models, could get a pickup body that would further make it more practical, while also adding a more muscular appearance overall.
The back of the car is the one that obviously received the biggest improvements, although it goes without saying that some additional refinements have also been given to the front to get the utilitarian look that we told you about.
If anything, this Kia Sorento pickup could very well become the Chevy Colorado killer that so many people are dreaming about, especially because such a model could be super-successful in markets like Brazil, where Kia is already a rather popular brand.
Positioning the Kia Sorento Pickup truck as a rival to the Colorado wouldn’t be that hard from a pricing perspective. Right now, the Colorado starts at $21,300 for the 2020 model year base version, while the Sorento itself can be yours in the U.S. beginning at $26,990.
At the end of the day, all of these seem to suggest that Kia should actually build a pickup truck that would compete against the Colorado, and right now, people familiar with the matter suggested the company is indeed considering such a model. Whether or not this rendering makes sense for the big honchos at Kia is something that remains to be seen in the long term.
