As promised, bike manufacturer Indian pulled the wraps of the new special version of the FTR 1200 bike, the Carbon, on May 1. As its name says, this new interpretation of the motorcycle is mostly about looks.
The Carbon is based on the FTR 1200 that was first shown three years ago, and it is meant as a tribute to the FTR750, a flat track racing motorcycle that managed to win three Grand National Titles in a row. Its main attribute is, of course, the extensive use of carbon fiber.
This material has been generously spread all around the body of the bike, and it can be seen on the front fender, headlight nacelle, tank and airbox covers, and passenger seat cowl. Additionally, the center console plate is now wearing the FTR Carbon markings.
The motorcycle rides on long travel fully adjustable suspension (150mm) and comes equipped with ABS, traction control, and wheelie mitigation control. The way in which it behaves on the road can be adjusted to one of three settings, Sport, Standard and Rain.
Powering the FTR Carbon is the same 1,203cc engine usually deployed in the range, good for 125 hp and 120 Nm of torque. There is a slight increase in power and torque thanks to the use of a low-mount titanium Akrapovic exhaust that comes in black.
For connectivity and safety, the FTR Carbon is equipped with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, USB fast-charge, Bluetooth, cruise and traction control, and dual disc Brembo ABS brakes.
“For the discerning rider, the FTR Carbon offers a collectable motorcycle with the highest level of finish and raises the bar for American motorcycles once again,” said in a statement Mike Dougherty, President of Indian Motorcycle.
“Delivering the finest riding experience and with the carbon accents enhancing the unique FTR styling, the FTR Carbon is sure to draw admiring looks anywhere you ride.”
The FTR Carbon announced by Indian will not be available on all markets, and the above is the configuration for the European market.
