Have you ever dreamed about owning a fully-fledged Ferrari race car? If the answer is yes, then it's time to act because a 2020 Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo is being auctioned off at no reserve.
Campaigned in the Ferrari Challenge North America series, the race car is offered with a clean Washington State title and all the features that make it eligible for competition. Now wrapped in orange and blue, the Ferrari still relies on the motorsport-spec body elements that set it apart from its road-legal sibling.

I'm talking about the big carbon-fiber rear wing, front spoiler and side winglets, Lexan side windows, dual quick-fill fuel caps, and center-lock forged alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero racing slicks. The exterior is in great condition apart from some "scrapes and other imperfections."

The interior features a single Sabelt bucket seat with a carbon-fiber shell and a six-point harness. There's also a rear-view camera atop the dashboard, a Racelogic video-enhanced data record, a Motorola racing radio, and an OMP fire suppression system. Much like the exterior, the cabin shows some wear and tear but is in excellent condition overall.

The 488 Challenge Evo packs the factory twin-turbo 3.9-liter V8 engine behind the rear seats. Equipped with a lighter exhaust system compared to the non-Evo version, the mill cranks out 661 horsepower and 560 pound-feet (759 Nm) of torque. All that oomph hits the rear wheels through a short-ratio seven-speed dual-clutch transaxle and an electronic limited-slip differential.

The seller doesn't provide any details about the car's racing career, but the odometer shows 13,000 km (8,078 miles). But he stresses that the Ferrari has not been registered for the street since it's not road-legal.

The 488 Challenge was the sixth Ferrari developed for the single-marque series. It all started with the 348 Challenge in 1993, followed by the F355 Challenge in 1995, and the 360 Modena Challenge in 2000. Ferrari introduced the F430 Challenge in 2006 and rolled out the 458 Challenge in 2011. The latter was followed by the upgraded 458 Challenge Evo in 2014.

The 488 Challenge broke cover in 2017, just as the road-legal 488 GTB hit dealerships. The Challenge is one of three motorsport-spec versions of the 488 developed by Ferrari. The company introduced GTE and GT3 versions for the 2016 racing season. Both cars won important events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 488 GTE also won the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2017.

The 488 Challenge was updated to Evo specifications in 2020. It remained in use in the Ferrari Challenge until 2023. In 2024, Ferrari introduced a successor based on the 296 sports car.

Bidding for this no-reserve auction has reached $81,000 with five days to go, which is far from the race car's initial quarter-million-dollar sticker. The car doesn't come with spare parts, which is a bummer for potential customers who want to race it. However, the seller says he can arrange to sell "spare wheels or other parts separately."

Pricing will most likely climb, as no 488 Challenge sold for less than $150,000 in the United States. Ferrari dealers are currently asking $190,000 to $400,000 for used and low-mileage examples.
