In October, the Paris Motor Show was the venue chosen by BMW to unveil the latest generation of the 3 Series sedan. One of the most important cars of modern times, and at the same time BMW’s most successful model, the 3 Series line has high standards for any cars attempting to become part of the pack.
And the new version, as shown and detailed a while back, surely seems more than capable of fitting right in this great family of cars.
The new model will become available for purchase in March next year, and until then BMW had to do something to keep the model at the top of the car buyers’ shopping lists. So here’s a brand new and extensive gallery showing the 3er in Portimao, Portugal, this time painted both white and blue for diversity.
The new generation comes with several important updates compared to its predecessor. A new design language, extensive improvements at the interior and most importantly even better control and capabilities than ever before.
When launched, the 3 Series will be available with a choice of six engines. There will be two versions of the same gasoline engine, on the 320i and 330i, both using a four-cylinder in-line engine and eight-speed Steptronic transmission, but with different power outputs: 184 hp and 258 hp, respectively.
The diesel offering is a tad more comprehensive, starting with the 318d (2.0-liter four-cylinder in-line engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, 150 hp), and going all the way to the 330d (3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine developing 265 hp). In between the two sits the 320d, including its xDrive variant, a model that develops 190 hp from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder in-line engine.
Just as other BMW models to be launched this spring, the new 3 Series will come with several new items added to the equipment list. The most important of them are the voice-controlled BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which will be available in 23 languages, and the enhanced Parking Assistant.
