This is expected to change with the introduction of the Viziv-7 Concept, which is set to receive a production model in 2019. The resulting vehicle will become the largest Subaru ever made, and it will be sold as a full-size SUV, a title that suits the model if we were to judge it by the size of the concept vehicle that previewed it.
The concept car named Viziv-7, which was presented last week, was already defined as the next three-row model from Subaru. It is safe to say that the styling is more pleasant to the eyes than its predecessor, the Tribeca. The new SUV should have an interior that will be suitably roomy for up to seven passengers.
With the increased body size in mind, Subaru cannot downsize the engine of this car too far, and the brand risks offering a “lemon” if the flat-six engine of the Tribeca does not get a significant update before being fitted to this model. Evidently, it would be impossible for the automaker to use the same engine, as it has to comply with emissions and fuel economy regulations.
However, Subaru might get inspired and turn the Viziv-7’s production version into a hybrid. The latter would solve the emissions problem without too much hassle, while fuel economy should also attain a reasonable level. Subaru only had a hybrid car in its lineup until now, and that model was a crossover.
The Crosstrek Hybrid was a charming proposition in its time, but Subaru decided to discontinue it starting with the 2017 model year. Just like the Tribeca, lagging sales brought this fate upon the only hybrid in the Subaru range. In the next few years, Subaru should get its spirit together and make an outstanding hybrid, which could also be the Tribeca’s successor.
