When it comes to body-on-frame SUVs, Nissan has only one such sport utility vehicle in the lineup. Introduced for the 2017 model year and retailing from $45,395, the second-generation Armada gets even better for 2018. And more expensive, with the price now standing at $45,600 w/o the $1,195 destination.
Capability-wise, there’s nothing much Nissan could’ve done to make the Armada better. The U.S.-spec brother of the Y62 Patrol continues to rely on a 5.6-liter Endurance V8 with 390 horsepower on tap, coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Titan pickup-derived powertrain can be matched to rear- and four-wheel-drive configurations. When properly equipped, the 2018 Nissan Armada can tow up to 8,500 pounds (3,855 kg) with confidence.
As standard for 2018, the NissanConnect Services come standard, as does SiriusXM Radio and HD Radio, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, Travel Link with three years of trial access, as well as Hands-Free Text Messaging.
New for 2018 is the Intelligent Rear View Mirror, which comes standard on the range-topping Platinum trim level. The I-RVM makes use of a high-resolution camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle, which projects a clear image onto the LCD screen built into the rearview mirror. For all intents and purposes, Cadillac offers a similar system in the CT6 full-size luxury sedan.
Even the lowliest of trim level benefits from LED low-beam headlights, halogen high beams, and LED daytime running lights. The SL and Platinum add fog lights, whereas all models feature LED taillights with bold combination lights. As for the air intake vents integrated into the front fenders, they’re fully functional and look the part thanks to the polished chrome finish.
In total, the 2018 Nissan Armada is available in seven exterior colors, as follows: three-coat Pearl White, Brilliant Silver, Super Black, Gun Metallic, Hermosa Blue, Mocha Almond, and Forged Copper. Offering seating for eight, the full-size SUV can also be had with second-row captain’s chairs. As far as the interior design is concerned, customers of the 2018 Armada can choose between three color options: Charcoal and Almond, as well as Tan.
