Previewed by the Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept from the 2013 NAIAS, the long-awaited three-row SUV from the German carmaker has been finally undressed of its secret. Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for the Teramont.
Spied by the carparazzi from Autohome, the Chinese specification of the Volkswagen Teramont is an imposing family hauler with a buff physique. The square-shaped front fascia is adorned with tons of chrome, square headlamps with LED accents, trapezoidal fog light surrounds, and a big chin finished in satin chrome. Typical VW cues.
Around the rear, a thin strip of chrome connects the Tiguan-style LED tail lamps. At each end of the satin chrome-laden rear bumper, you will notice a polished exhaust tip through which the V6 engine breathes out. While the badge reads “V6,” nobody knows for certain what kind of mill we’re dealing it. Is it the good old 3.6-liter V6 FSI from the Touareg, the one which sends 276 horsepower (280 PS) to the wheels? Probably so.
Another possibility comes in the form of the 3.0-liter V6 from Audi, which develops 272 horsepower in the case of the Q5 compact crossover or a more brawny 328 horsepower in the case of the Q7 full-size luxury SUV. Only time will tell what the 2017 Volkswagen Teramont for the American market will get, though. Expected to go into production late this year at the Volkswagen Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, the Teramont is slated to be unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Inside, the pictures from Autohome hint that the Teramont’s V6 engine will be connected to an automatic transmission. The center armrest is a two-piece job, which is a nice touch for both driver and front passenger. While we’re able to notice that the second-row passengers have plenty of space back there, there’s no spy photo whatsoever of the third row of seats.
These said, what do you make of the 2017 Volkswagen Teramont?
