Having made its debut in Paris at the end of September, the all-new Skoda Kodiaq prepares to go on sale in Europe. Pricing in the United Kingdom starts from £21,495. In its domestic market, Skoda wants at least 677,900 Czech koruna for the no-frills grade.
At the present moment, pricing in euros has yet to be announced. If, however, we convert the UK and CZ prices to € at the current exchange rates, that’s €23,830 and €25,085. At launch, Skoda's 7-seater SUV will be available with five engine options, a choice of stick shift or 7-speed DSG, as well as a choice of front- or all-wheel-drive. In the Czech Republic, three trim levels are available at the Kodiaq's launch: Active, Ambition, and range-topping Style.
The United Kingdom, on the other hand, gets the Kodiaq in four flavors: S, SE, SE L, and Edition, with the latter celebrating the Skoda’s brand venture into 7-seater SUV territory. As standard, the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq makes use of a 1.4 TSI 125 PS (123 hp) turbo petrol matched with a manual tranny. From the get-go, the equipment list includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air con, Front Assist, touchscreen infotainment, digital radio, and SmartLink phone connectivity.
All-wheel-drive, the DSG or other engines aren’t available for the entry-level model in the UK. If you want the more powerful 1.4 TSI, 2.0 TSI 180 PS (178 hp) or the 2.0 TDI (115 PS / 113 hp, 150 PS / 148 hp), prepare to move on up on the available range of trim levels. The most powerful engine - the 2.0 TDI 190 PS (187 hp), is only available on the top-of-the-line model and it’s matched with the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive.
Later on, Skoda is expected to one-up the engine range with a twin-turbo version of the 2.0-liter turbo diesel. This information has been partially confirmed by Christian Struber, a Skoda board member who has driven a prototype of the yet-to-be-launched Kodiaq 2.0 BiTDI. According to Struber, the 240 PS (237 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) powertrain is “fantastic.”
Expect the 2017 Skoda Kodiaq to arrive in dealer lots early next year.
