Kia is preparing to launch a major facelift of the current Soul, with the production model expected to come to market this year.
The Soul crossover will keep the updated variant in production until 2018, when the third generation of this model is anticipated to be launched. Until then, Kia engineers are working on the refreshed version of the second-generation Soul.
The prototype spied by our friends at CarPix features new headlights, a new front bumper, redesigned new lights and a different rear bumper. The Korean manufacturer has decided to lose the fake air vents in the front fenders. Also on the car’s profile, the side mirrors appear larger and with a slightly different shape.
The interior of the Kia Soul facelift is likely to receive some upgrades as well. We expect the latest UVO multimedia interface from Kia to be fitted, along with new trim and improved materials.
On the technical side, there’s no news on what Kia plans to change on the Soul with its facelift. Most likely, the crossover won’t get a dramatic change, as most facelifts never do. The Korean manufacturer might introduce new or upgraded engines in the Soul range, along with slight tweaks to the suspension and steering systems.
The previous update of the Kia Soul brought a new generation to this model. However, the car’s signature shape hasn’t changed dramatically. The people at Kia figured out that the car was so popular thanks to its unusual appearance, so they chose not to fix something that wasn’t broken in the first place.
For some buyers, the Soul put Kia on the map, so this model is bound to have a lengthy career. Naturally, the model’s lifespan will only last as long as the company can make money off the sale of the car and while the segment in which it stands is successful. Since it’s a crossover with SUV-looking features, the Soul stands a pretty good chance in the market.
