While we're all busy playing with the new Ford GT configurator (more on that below), the engineers are out there completing the final testing for the supercar. In fact, a pre-production model was recently spotted in Ontario, Canada, with the driver of the machine offering us an unexpected present.
The supercar was caught on camera close to Markham, Ontario, where its carbon fiber body is being handled by Multimatic. A Ford partner for three decades now, the Canadian company has mainly sustained the Blue Oval's motorsport efforts, with the bond between the two now getting stronger. It's enough to check out the Ford GT racecar that's already out there on the track.
We're dealing with a pre-production model here and you can see some of the details on the car, such as the trim around the windows, have evolved since the early prototypes spotted last year.
The Ford GT was caught on camera in a parking lot (hat tip to Chico's Cars for the video), so we get a complete look, but the real treat comes in the final part of the clip.
The driver of the car steps into the apparently tight cockpit, awakens the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and, as the wing rises, demonstrates a strong take-off. The vicious soundtrack that follows is ready to dismiss any fingers pointed at the twin-turbo V6 configuration. Oh yes, this sound is more than worthy of the badge.
The timing seems to be perfect, as Ford has just launched a dedicated Ford GT website that serves as the first step in the rigorous customer selection program for the machine.
If you're in the market for a $400,000 supercar (mind you, the price hasn't been officially confirmed yet), you can head over to FORDGT.com and submit an application. The next step is to select a GT-bearing dealer in your desired area.
The automaker is only accepting 500 applications, which will cover the production run for two years. If you happen to be accepted, you'll enter the world of the Ford GT Concierge Service, a benefit that will also be at hand throughout your ownership experience. As for the timing, production is expected to start late this year.
Besides cookies, the website also has a Ford GT configurator, so you'll be excused for spending some time dreaming about Ford's new halo car.
