After the debut of the sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro in May 2015, the brand with the golden bowtie is now preparing to one-up the model range with a driver-focused addition. Reportedly, General Motors will take the wraps off the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE this February at the Chicago Auto Show.
McCormick Palace will open its doors to the media on February 11. As per a report published by our friends from Leftlane News, this is the venue where Chevrolet will debut the facelifted Trax compact crossover, as well as the Camaro SS 1LE Track Pack. And, as it’s often the case with reports like this one, there’s not a single official word from Chevrolet on what the 1LE-ified Camaro package brings to the table.
The only proof we have that Chevrolet is working on the 2017 Camaro 1LE is the video below, featuring a camouflaged prototype of the track-oriented pony car. Set to be offered as a package on the LT1 V8-powered SS, the 1LE Track Pack will bring different wheels, stickier rubber on all four corners of the car, performance suspension, as well as 6-piston front brake calipers.
A further difference between the SS and 1LE will come in the form of a blade spoiler at the rear instead of a wing, together with a subtle front splitter that will improve the amount of downforce at the front of the vehicle. What about the 6.2-liter V8 under the hood of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE? Will it produce more than 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft (617 Nm)?
To be frank, we’re not keeping our hopes up for added grunt. More oomph from the eight-cylinder engine will become reality with the addition of the ZL1. Expect the SS 1LE Track Pack to carry a price tag $3,500 over the retail price of the Chevrolet Camaro SS. Deliveries will most probably begin in the fall.
