Not even a week has passed since Chevrolet took the covers off the 2017 Camaro ZL1 and Callaway Cars already promises to take things up a notch. The first unit of the 2017 Callaway Camaro SC740 is slated to be made by the end of calendar year 2016.
The overzealous version of the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is more powerful than the donor car by 100 horsepower. Compared to a Dodge Challenger in SRT Hellcat form, the 2017 Callaway Camaro ZL1 has 33 ponies more. Unfortunately, torque figures aren’t available at the time of writing, although we can expect more than 640 lb-ft (868 Nm) from the supercharged small-block V8 blunderbuss known as the LT4, the same engine that motivates the Corvette Z06 and the Cadillac CTS-V.
At the core of the modifications list is a different supercharger. Callaway is set to increase the displacement of the rotor pack from 1,740 cc to 2,300 cc. That’s 32 percent more than stock. Other noteworthy mods include a different supercharger housing and an integrated intake manifold specifically developed to reduce charge air temperature.
More details about the 2017 Callaway Camaro ZL1 are slated to be released later in the year. Just like any other tuned machine adorned with Callaway badges, the ZL1 will benefit from a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty that overlaps Chevy’s warranty. Of course, customers will be offered options, a choice between two cog swappers: a 6-speed manual transmission or a spanking new, quick-shifting 10-speed automatic.
If you can’t wait that long for Chevrolet to start production of the Camaro ZL1 and Callaway to work its magic, you’re provided with an alternative in the form of the SC610, a nameplate that stands for 610 all-American horsepower and 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) of get-up-and-go. This badass muscle car retails for $54,290. For those people who already own a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS, the SC610 package is priced at $16,995.
