There are many voices in the industry hinting that Fiat-Chrysler is currently developing a new small pickup truck for the US. After our carparazzi sent us the spy photographs below, it seems like the Italo-American group will be offering a bigger Ram 750.
As opposed to the Brazil-only Ram 750 truck, this heavily-camouflaged Ram prototype will also arrive in the United States according to several reports. In terms of dimensions, this is marginally bigger than a Ram 750 / Fiat Strada. That black cladding hides a bigger bed than ever and four proper doors, tell-tale signs engineers are adapting it for the United States.
It's hardly probable we'll get a Brazil-spec two-door, El Camino-like variant of the thing because there's no market for such a truck in the United States of America, more so when you consider this model rides on Fiat underpinnings and it's offered with a four-cylinder engine and a stick shift as standard – the 115 horsepower 1.6-liter E.Torq mated to a five-speed manual transmission is the only powertrain option on the Brazil-only 750 and our hunch is that the US will also get a four-pot, but coupled to an automatic.
Previously caught on film testing in the US several months ago, our carparazzi spied the mystery Ram small pickup truck this time around in Europe, which means that there's a Fiat-branded variant in the pipeline.
Similar to how Fiat put a few Ram badges on the Ducato and started selling it as the ProMaster, it's easy to tell that we'll first see the Fiat Strada Double Cab be launched, with the new Ram small truck right after it.
