The 2016 model year brings an exciting new rocket to the Mercedes C-Class range. MB USA just announced the mental C450 AMG 4Matic sedan will be available for order pretty soon, targeting a much broader audience of performance junkies than the C63 could by itself.
The C450 AMG is Mercedes' answer to the Audi S4 sedan and S5 four-door coupe. It features a newly developed twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that develops 362 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque.
This engine has been touched by the AMG gods and so have some of the other components. An AMG-exclusive 4Matic system is used, splitting the torque 33% to the front and 67% to the rear. You can't get that on the C63, now can you?
The sedan might not be able to offer the same levels of performance as a V8, but it gets from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. It's about as fast as older versions of the C63 AMG that had the 5.5-liter engine.
The Affalterbach influence is not just limited to the drivetrain, and also includes such enhancements as AMG Adaptive 3-Stage Suspension, larger brakes with 4-piston front calipers, specific interior, and exterior styling, upgraded Dynamic Select profiles, AMG engineered steering profile and a tuned exhaust system that produces the signature throaty exhaust note.
Hitting dealerships this September, the performance V6 sedan will cost you at least $50,800, not including handling charges. That's not cheap, but neither is the $48,400 Audi S4, which is down a blower and a few horses. Meanwhile, BMW will charge you at least $46,000 for one of their 335i xDrive sedans. We think that car isn't even in the same league.
However, it wouldn't be wise not to tell you guys that Mercedes only charges $64,825 for one of its C63 sedans. That thing packs a twin-turbo V8 punch with 467 horses and an extra 100 pounds of twist. If you want your C-Class to go sideways a lot, get one of those.
