While Honda doesn’t find itself on the wrong foot in terms of sales volume in North America, Acura isn’t enjoying the same success. In order to address the issue of potential customers that don’t want to pay more money than it’s fair for a remotely reskinned Honda, the luxury-oriented brand started to get its act together with the 2016 model year ILX sedan.
First introduced in 2012 as a 2013 model year, the 2016 Acura ILX is a mere facelift job. Compared to the atrocity before it, this nip & tuck job is exactly what the ILX should’ve been from the get-go. Like its unenthusiastic predecessor, the 2016 ILX boasts with Honda Civic underpinnings and is categorized as a compact executive car with luxury credentials.
Just as the brand was celebrating its 2 millionth car made and sold in North America, Acura informs that the very first unit of the 2016 ILX just rolled off the assembly line at the Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio. "This year marks the 20th anniversary of the start of Acura production in Ohio, so the introduction of the ILX is another exciting stage in our history with the Acura brand," declared plant manager Rob May.
What’s hiding in the belly of the sports sedan is an American lump, manufactured at the nearby Anna, Ohio engine plant. Unfortunately, pricing for the 2016 model year Acura ILX isn't available at the moment.

"Our associates are applying our tremendous experience in producing high quality Acura products and will leverage the production of TLX and ILX in one plant to meet the high expectations of our Acura customers,” he added.
The gateway of the Acura sedan lineup received a mild injection of “better than ever” by introducing a 2.4-liter DOHC direct-injected i-VTEC four-pot mill and an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Those of you who know your Acuras well, yup, it’s the same powertrain that drives one version of the TLX sedan. What’s hiding in the belly of the sports sedan is an American lump, manufactured at the nearby Anna, Ohio engine plant.
