The upcoming replacement for the Mercedes-Benz CL coupe is nearing its launch date, which should happen at the 2014 North American International Auto Show, in January.
With that date still about a month away, Mercedes-Benz is busy putting more miles on pre-production prototypes, with the latest batch of spy photos being shot in the Catalonian region of Spain, near Barcelona.

Set to lose the CL moniker and get back to the S-Class Coupe title – which was only used between 1994 and 1996 on its C140 predecessor – the new flagship grand tourer from Mercedes-Benz was already previewed by the drop-dead gorgeous Concept S-Class Coupe at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new S-Class Coupe will be based on the current Mercedes-Benz S-Class W222 platform, from which it will borrow most of its engines, apart from the diesels and the upcoming four-cylinders.

The model caught in the adjacent spy photos with a tad less camo than previous examples seems to be the S 500 (550 in the US) Coupe, which features a twin-turbocharged, 4.6-liter V8 with 455 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb ft) of torque.

If there will be an image leak with the new car (which it most definitely will), we are expecting it to happen in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
