Infiniti has officially unveiled UK pricing information for the 2015 Q70 model, which features cosmetic tweaks that make it look like the smaller but newer Q50.
Prices start at £32,650, which is remarkably cheap for a rear-wheel drive sedan the size of the BMW 5 Series. You can barely get a decently equipped and engined VW Passat for that sort of cash.
But while Infiniti deserve a medal for cost cutting, the engine they chose to offer is less inspiring. Because their old 3-liter V6 isn't up to Euro 6 levels, they've dumped it in favor of a new mill from Mercedes. What's the problem? Well, it's a 2.2-liter (technically, it's 2,143cc, so 2.1 liters) and it only produces 170 PS and 400 Nm of torque (295 lb-ft).
When you consider all that, the Q70 doesn't seem all that wonderful. The Mercedes E 220 BlueTEC with a 7-speed G tronic, especially the same powertrain, costs £33,600. That means it's only £950 more expensive than the Japanese equivalent.
Infiniti makes up for this slightly by offering extra equipment. This includes LED headlights, a reversing camera, parking sensors, leather seats,18-inch alloys and Connectiviti+ navigation. Most of these are optional extras on the German car.
As well as the new 2.2 diesel engine, the Q70 for 2015 is available with both 3.7-liter V6 petrol power and, for the flagship, a hybrid system. It combines a 3.5-liter V6 and an electric motor to deliver the combined output of 364 PS and 546 Nm (403 lb-ft), the highest of any Q70 model.
