As we’ve previously reported, the sixth-generation Mustang could mark the return of the Mach 1 moniker, which was discontinued for the second time almost ten years ago. Nothing’s official yet, but word has it Ford is in the final stages of acquiring the trademark for the iconic name.
If the rumor proves to be true, we could see a sixth-generation Mustang Mach 1 being launched for the 2016 model year, but it’s a little too early to speculate on what Ford might be rolling out on the new pony. However, a recent rendering from Top Speed suggests the Mach 1 would look awesome with a large front splitter, a rear spoiler, quad exhaust pipes and black stripes.
On the other hand, a new rendering from Hilburn Automotive (pictured above) submits a milder design for the Mach 1, with a less aggressive front fascia but with a heat extractor hood. Hilburn also rendered a Shelby GT350 based on the brand new Mustang, just in case you missed it earlier this month.
