Based on a Japanese kei car, the Suzuki Alta is sold in Europe as an A-segment car, a city car if you will. However, it's only really popular in India, where it's marketed as the Maruti Suzuki A-Star.
A replacement is coming next year, and it's already been previewed as a concept. Making its debut last week at the Thailand International Motor Show, the A:Wind concept previews the design of a global A-segment car. Unlike the kei car based Alto, which measures 3,395 mm in length, the new model is a well proportioned 3,600mm. This is crucial, since Hyundai has made the i10 much larger this year and has launched the Grand i10 to great success in India.
Based on the A:Wind Concept of last week, car renderer X-Tomi Design has created this watered down version that's closer to the actual production car. Simpler bumpers and headlights are used, crucial for keeping costs down in this very price-competitive market.
When it goes on sale next year, the Wind will be assembled in Thailand. Power will come from a 3-cylinder 1-liter engine mater to either a 5-speed manual (we think) or a CVT gearbox.
