The 2014 Subaru Forester has recently received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), with the vehicle being included in a batch of 13 small SUVs tested by the Institute.
The Forester was the first vehicle to pass the IIHS’ new small overlap frontal crash test with flying colors. The test aims to show what happens when the front corner of a vehicle crashes with another car or an tree. Thus, a quarter of the car’s front end (driver’s side) is crashed against a 5-foot-tall (1.5 meters) rigid barrier at 40 mph (65 km/h).
In addition, the 2014 Subaru Forester received the “Good” rating, the highest one available, in all of the IIHS’s tests. You can see exactly how the Forester behaved during the aforementioned small overlap test in the video below.
