Today is definitely MINI day! The next generation hatch will be shown next Monday, but thanks to our spies on location in Germany, we have the clearest shots of the convertible ever.
What we have here is the 2014 MINI Cooper Convertible, built on the new UKL1 platform, lighter and stronger than before. And because the hatch will be revealed next week and BMW expects photos to be leaked, much of the camo is gone.
This reveals a new lower rear valence, front bumper and a few other things. The Cooper loos overall more rounded than the Cooper S. The headlights and taillights are also bigger and have a cute look to them.
But the most interesting thing we can learn here is that MINI now offers front parking sensors. In fact, from those sensors mounded to the very edge of the wheel arches, we'd say this car has BMW Park Assist to scan for bays.
The Cooper Convertible will have a 1.5-liter with 136 hp and 220 Nm. The Cooper S will be powered by a bigger 2-liter 192 HP and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. In Europe, the launch will also feature the Cooper D, also a 1.5-liter, producing 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque.
