Mercedes-Benz is making another step towards presenting the complete facelifted E-Class range. So far we’ve met the 2014 E-Class sedan and wagon and caught a glimpse at the E63 AMG. Until we get the the complete image of the last, which will mark AMG’s shift towards also offering AWD past the SUV range, the company is giving us the official specs and images for the Coupe and Cabriolet.
Both models receive the one-piece headlights, together with the more generous front grille and the refreshed bumper. Mercedes had already established a “four-eye” look for the E-Class and this can also be found here. The feature is presented in the form of the LEDs that create two separate areas within each headlight. At the back, we have new LED taillights, as well as a restyled apron, which manage to bring a fresh image for the car.
As for the cabin, the most notable change is the introduction of a Drive Select lever, which replaces the traditional shift lever of the pre-facelift model. On the technology front, Mercedes has introduced features such as Active Park Assist, a 360-degree camera that offers a bird’s-eye view for parking.
The Coupe and the Cabrio won’t get all-new powerplant options like the sedan, at least for now. Instead, they’ll come with the engine range of the pre-revamp models, albeit with a few tweaks aimed at boosting fuel efficiency.
The range starts with the 181 hp turbocharged 2-0-liter E200, which is followed by the E250 that uses a 208 hp version of the same engine. Climbing higher we find the 302 hp E350, which uses a 3.5-liter V6 and the E550 that features a 402 hp 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8.
The oil-burning side of the line-up includes the E200 CDI, with a 134 hp 2.1-liter 4-cylinder turbo, the E220 CDI, powered by a 168 hp version of the unit and the E250 CDI, which takes the aforementioned powerplant to 201 hp.
Customers can choose between a six-speed manual and an updated seven-speed automatic, both of which offer standard efficiency-increasing technologies, including stop-start and brake energy recuperation.
The revamped E-Class range will make its debut at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show, but the Coupe and Convertible won’t arrive in showrooms until the summer.
