Maserati North America is recalling certain Quattroporte GTS V8 sedans built for the 2014 model year to replace an alternator-starter wiring harness that may overheat and potentially result in a fire.
"The affected vehicles have an improper Y-connection crimp in the alternator-starter motor wiring harness. The improper crimp could cause the the battery positive cable to short to ground which may cause the the wiring harness to overheat and result in a fire. The car also may stall, increasing the risk of a crash," the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said in a statement.
The recall affects 63 units of the 2014 Quattroporte GTS V8, which will have their alternator-starter wiring harness replaced free of charge.
Owners may contact Maserati at 1-201-816-2600 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte GTS, which we tested earlier this year, starts from $144,900 in the United States.
