As we’ve already reported earlier this week, Chevrolet will put on quite a show at the 2013 SEMA, where they’re showcasing a handful of Corvette, Camaro, Silverado, and SUV concepts, but a couple of new releases as well.
One of them is the 2014 Camaro Spring Special Edition, a limited edition musclecar packed with Chevrolet Accessories components and unique features, while the second new vehicle to be shown in Las Vegas is the 2014 model year COPO Camaro., Chevy’s factory-built race car and Mustang Cobra Jet rival.
To be built in only 69 examples, next year’s COPO will carry the new front and rear fascias of the 2014 Camaro lineup and will be fitted with Chevy’s racing chassis and suspension components, including a unique solid rear axle system and an NHRA-approved roll cage.
The new LS-based racing engine lineup will include a revised version of the naturally aspirated 427 (7.0-liter), a supercharged version of the 350 (5.7-liter) featuring a 2.9-liter Whipple compressor and naturally aspirated 350 (5.7-liter) and 396 (6.5-liter) units.
Serial number 1 of the limited-production COPO Camaro will be auctioned by Chevrolet Performance at Barrett-Jackson’s annual January event in Scottsdale, with proceeds to benefit the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
"The COPO Camaro contingent was strong at the first Chevrolet Performance US Nationals in 2013 and we expect an even larger turnout with the new cars in 2014," said Jim Campbell, General Motors vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. "The new engines will make the racing more exciting and COPO drivers more competitive.”
