The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High Country and the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 have earned the five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
According to Chevrolet, the aforementioned vehicles are the first pickup trucks to receive the highest possible NHTSA rating since the agency introduced it New Car Assessment Program in 2011.
The NHTSA only tested Crew Cab versions of the 2014 Silverado and Sierra twins, which are expected to account for 60 percent of GM’s 2014 light duty full-size pickup truck sales. The new vehicles will also become available as Regular Cab and Double Cab models.
“Safety is as important to truck buyers as it is to car buyers,” said Gay Kent, General Motors director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness. “Silverado and Sierra set a benchmark for pickup truck safety by offering a full array of advanced features designed to protect occupants before, during and after a collision.”
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra will arrive in US dealerships later this year.
