Apart from the Top Gear crew (whose review we already talked about earlier) there was another British car magazine on the spot at the BMW M235i World Debut press event held by the German automaker, CAR.
They also had a run inside the new Coupe and confirmed what we read before: this car is brilliant. From the smooth power delivery of the 3-liter turbocharged engine under the bonnet, to the planted feel on the road, the new BMW is more than a new M Performance car, it’s a reference point already.
The 8-speed gearbox is a blast to drive, as always, but it’s also refined when you need it too, without compromising anything. However, if you want to get the most out of every possible situation in terms of driving experience, the M3-sourced 6-speed manual is the way to go.
Unlike the Top Gear review, this time the brakes were praised and commended as “brilliant” so I’m guessing that it’s all becoming a matter of taste.
However, overall, the minuses are so minuscule you can’t really take them seriously. The M235i is an instant hit, from every point you’re looking at it: performance, comfort, price.
