The fact that the 2014 Audi A4 is going to be lighter and more luxurious is not a secret anymore, but further details about the future sedan have been revealed.
According to Autobild, the B9 platform-built Audi A4 could be up to 100 kilograms (220 pounds) lighter with new aluminum, magnesium parts and might have at least five engine options, including plug-in hybrid version.
The range-starter will be the 1.4-liter TSI, which is expected to come with 150 HP, while a bigger 2.0-liter TSFI might offer as much as 225 HP. The 2.0-liter TDI will be offered in four flavors, the base one being good for at least 122 HP, with the most powerful of the four being able to deliver 190 HP. Finally, the 3.0-liter V6 TDI will be offered as well, in two flavors developing 218 HP and 272 HP respectively.
No, we haven't forgotten about the hybrid. The same German source says that a plug-in version combining a 2.0-liter TSFI engine and an e-quattro electric motor setup should become available within a year after the car's launch. Powered by a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, the electric motors will reportedly have a travel range of 50 kilometers (31 miles).
