The Chevy Volt has won GM more awards than any other car in the past year or so. But while their first mass production EV is a decent car, bowtie branded cars have been known to cut a few corners here and there.
However, lift the carpet on one of these, and you won't find any ugly welds or bolts sticking out. It's the Volt's luxury cousin! Cadillac adopted Chevy's electric four-door, lost the doors and sent it off to college. When it returned, the model was completely transformed into the only luxury EV you'll ever need.
Words really do fail us when looking at these live pictures of the Cadillac ELR taken at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. It's as hot-looking as any premium car out there, and as green as a freshly cut grass field.
The ELR will enter series production in fall, powered by the same drivetrain as the Volt, featuring a gas-powered generator and an electric motor with a T-shaped lithium-ion battery package.
"Cadillac customers are going to enjoy the unique features ELR will bring to the market," said Chris Thomason, ELR chief engineer. "We’re going to change the way people think about luxury and electrification."
